Endoscopy at Klíníkin
Colonoscopy: a flexible camera examines the entire colon. It is used to diagnose the cause of bleeding, changes in bowel habits, and abdominal pain – and to find and remove polyps before they turn into cancer. The procedure takes 20–40 minutes and is performed under sedation; you will be with us for about two hours.
Gastroscopy: examination of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum due to reflux, difficulty swallowing, pain, or anaemia. Takes 5–15 minutes and sedation is optional.
Colon screening: colon cancer is among the most common cancers in Iceland but is almost always curable if detected early. Colonoscopy is the most accurate screening method because polyps are removed on the spot. We recommend screening from age 45 – earlier if there is a history of colon cancer in the immediate family. You can book a screening without a referral.
How to book. Medical consultation: it is preferred to have a referral from a GP, describing the problem and requested solutions. Endoscopy due to symptoms or risk factors: likewise, a referral is preferred. Preventive colonoscopy: individuals aged 45–75 can book a colonoscopy directly without a referral. Consultations and endoscopies can be booked on My Pages or by phone at 519 7000. All requests are reviewed by a healthcare professional before an appointment is confirmed.
Colonoscopy – it's no big deal. In the educational video on the side (9 minutes), the entire process of a colonoscopy is covered, from preparation to completion. Script: Ásgeir Theódórs, specialist in digestive diseases.
