About the ward

Klíníkin is the only privately operated healthcare institution in Iceland with a licence to operate an inpatient ward. This means that major surgeries – joint replacements, spinal surgeries, bariatric surgeries, laparoscopic procedures in women's health, and breast surgeries – are performed here on-site with overnight stays, instead of you having to go home the same day or to a hospital.

Nurses are on duty 24 hours a day, and a doctor is always on call. A physiotherapist visits you in the inpatient ward on the very first day after a joint replacement, and you will receive a personalised rehabilitation plan to take home.

Most people undergoing joint replacement, spinal stenosis surgery, or bariatric surgery stay for one night. One overnight stay is included in the price of procedures where it is part of the treatment; an additional night costs ISK 94,000.

How we can help

Nurses are on duty 24/7 and a doctor is always on call. You are never alone with your worries or pain.

Most people stay one night after joint replacement, spinal decompression surgery, or bariatric surgery. Herniated disc surgery and many women's health procedures are day surgeries.

Prices

One overnight stay is included in the price of procedures where hospitalisation is part of the treatment – for example, joint replacements, spinal stenosis surgeries, and bariatric surgeries. If a longer stay is required, an additional night is paid separately: ISK 94,000.

When a procedure is performed under an agreement with Icelandic Health Insurance (SÍ), the patient's co-payment is based on the Icelandic Health Insurance tariff, and the hospitalisation is included.

More information on patient co-payments can be found on the Icelandic Health Insurance website: sjukra.is

How does the process work?

How does the process work?

Admission. You arrive at the agreed time on the day of surgery, fasting according to instructions. A nurse welcomes you, reviews your medication, and prepares you for the procedure. After the operation, you wake up in the recovery room and then go to the inpatient ward.

The stay. On the inpatient ward, you are under the supervision of nurses 24 hours a day, and a doctor is always on call. Pain treatment is adjusted as needed, and a physiotherapist will visit you on the very first day after joint replacement to get you started.

Discharge. Before discharge, you will go over instructions with a nurse: wound care, pain medication, movement, and when it is safe to shower, drive, and return to work. The instructions and follow-up appointments will also appear on My Pages, and you can always call 519 7000 if anything arises.
