The Breast Team at Klíníkin is strengthened
Klíníkin encourages breast screening and strengthens its services by adding Svanheiður Lóa Rafnsdóttir to the breast team.
October is breast cancer awareness month and today is pink day. Klíníkin wants to use this opportunity to encourage everyone to attend breast screening and pay attention to their own breast health.
A strong breast team operates at Klíníkin and it is extremely pleasing to announce that Svanheiður Lóa Rafnsdóttir, breast surgeon, recently joined the group. The intention is to further strengthen the reception and service for individuals due to breast problems.
Klíníkin cares about women's health and has in recent years built up strong health services for, among other things, various breast problems and gynaecological diseases, but the breast team was founded by Kristján Skúli Ásgeirsson, breast surgeon.
Kristján and Svanheiður are experienced surgeons specialising in surgeries due to, among other things, breast cancer, risk mutations (preventative mastectomy), and breast reconstruction after such surgeries. They also perform various cosmetic breast surgeries, breast reductions, breast lifts, breast reconstruction with implants or their own fat tissue. They also perform procedures to remove breast implants along with the surrounding scar tissue and make appropriate adjustments to achieve the best cosmetic outcome.
The breast team provides extensive service to individuals with genetic mutations that increase the risk of breast cancer. Emphasis is placed on personalised service and timely interventions when risk-reducing surgeries are needed. We are proud to be able to guarantee everyone equal access to this essential health service, made possible by government support in the form of contracts with Icelandic Health Insurance (SÍ) and a well-organised operation.
We must not forget that men can also get breast cancer and they are generally becoming more aware of breast health. They can face various breast-related problems such as benign enlargement of breast tissue (gynecomastia), which is often a nuisance but easy to treat.
In the spirit of pink October, Willum Þór Þórsson, Minister of Health, has made breast screening virtually free of charge to increase women's participation in screening. He has repeatedly demonstrated in practice a constructive and effective approach towards the country's health services. The interests of the individual are always the starting point.
Finally, we encourage everyone to paint the day pink and participate in breast screening!
