Svanheiður Lóa Rafnsdóttir
Breast surgery specialist
Svanheiður Lóa is a specialist in breast surgery, breast cancer surgeries, risk-reducing procedures, breast reconstructive surgeries, and aesthetic breast surgeries. She also has extensive experience in axillary surgeries and treatments, as well as providing treatments for excessive sweating and Botox treatments.
She has broad experience and knowledge in the field of breast health and breast cancer prevention. Holistic care with an emphasis on women's health has been a particular interest of Svanheiður.
She moved back to Iceland in 2018 after a long stay abroad where she studied medicine, completed residency training in general surgery, and later worked as a specialist in breast surgery and general surgery.
Svanheiður studied medicine at the University of Hamburg in Germany, where she obtained her medical licence. This was followed by residency training in surgery at the surgical department of Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. Upon completion of her residency, she worked as a specialist at the breast surgery department and the general surgery department of Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg, where she performed cancer surgeries, including procedures for skin melanomas, lipoedema/lymphedema, and breast surgery with an emphasis on breast reconstructions and risk-reducing breast surgeries.
In 2018, she joined Landspítali University Hospital, where she was at the forefront of developing the breast surgery department and the Breast Centre. In 2022, she was appointed chief physician of the breast surgery department and the Breast Centre at Landspítali. She has also participated in and managed diverse domestic and international projects in the fields of science, teaching, and research within her area of expertise.
Alongside her work at Klíníkin, Svanheiður also works as the chief physician at the Breast Centre of Landspítali.
