Svanheiður Lóa Rafnsdóttir
Breast surgery specialist
Svanheiður Lóa Rafnsdóttir is a specialist in general surgery, specialising in breast surgery. She has extensive experience in breast cancer surgery, risk-reducing breast surgery, breast reconstruction and cosmetic breast surgery. She has also specialised in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of lipedema, caring for women with lipedema from assessment and preparation for surgery through to follow-up and long-term treatment.
She also performs axillary surgery and treatments for excessive sweating. A holistic and individualised approach to women's health is particularly close to her heart.
Svanheiður completed her medical degree at the University of Hamburg in Germany and her specialist training in surgery at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg. After completing her specialist training, she worked there as a consultant in breast surgery and general surgery.
In 2018 she moved back to Iceland and started working at Landspítali, the National University Hospital of Iceland. There she played an active part in developing breast surgery and the Landspítali Breast Centre, and later served as chief physician of the Breast Centre and breast surgery.
Today Svanheiður works at Klíníkin Ármúla, where her main focus is breast surgery, cosmetic breast surgery and the surgical treatment of lipedema.
