Njáll Vikar Smárason

Njáll Vikar is an orthopaedic surgeon focusing on spinal problems.

Njáll Vikar studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Iceland, graduated in 2011, and was licensed to practice medicine in 2012, after his internship year at the Hospital in Akranes.

During his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Hospital in Halmstad, Sweden, he early on focused on back problems and general spinal surgery, and obtained his certification as an orthopaedic surgeon in Sweden in 2019. He was then offered a position at the Skåne University Hospital (Malmö/Lund) to work as a spinal surgeon, where he worked as a specialist in the spinal surgery department in Malmö until the family relocated back to Iceland in the autumn of 2020.

Njáll Vikar then worked both in primary care and at Orkuhúsið, but soon returned to the spinal surgery department in Malmö, traveling regularly between Iceland and Sweden until he started working at Klíníkin in the spring of 2024.
