Jóhannes Árnason
Specialist in plastic surgery
Jóhannes completed his general medical degree from the University of Iceland in 1995 and began specialty training in plastic surgery in 1997 in the UK, later moving to Denmark where he completed his studies. He obtained his specialist licence in plastic surgery in 2004.
Jóhannes developed a keen interest in cosmetic plastic surgery, specialising in it early on, and acquired all possible knowledge from leaders in the field within Scandinavia and beyond. He is among a select group of people who have completed a fellowship in cosmetic plastic surgery in the United States and Sweden.
From 2005, Jóhannes worked as a plastic surgeon at Plastikkirurgi Centrum, one of the largest cosmetic plastic surgery clinics in Scandinavia, and operated clinics in Malmö and Copenhagen. In 2007, Klíníkin was acquired by Akademikliniken, another major player in the field of cosmetic plastic surgery. Jóhannes then continued his work at Akademikliniken in Malmö and Copenhagen as a leading plastic surgeon at this largest private plastic surgery clinic conglomerate in Scandinavia.
In 2010, Jóhannes was asked to participate in establishing two private plastic surgery hospitals in Copenhagen and Malmö for a new chain of plastic surgery clinics. He began working there in March 2010 as one of the owners of these hospitals, which are now part of the Teres Medical Group. Teres Medical Group is the largest private plastic surgery chain in Scandinavia, with 17 clinics and around 30 practicing plastic surgeons.
Jóhannes is one of the few doctors in Iceland who has specialised in cosmetic rhinoplasty, but he otherwise possesses extensive experience in all kinds of cosmetic procedures. He has great expertise in breast augmentations and uses a method called Biodimensional thinking to select breast implants, relying on individual breast measurements to choose the implant. This method has gained popularity in recent years with the advent of anatomical implants. Jóhannes is one of the few in Scandinavia with extensive experience in placing breast implants through the armpit, leaving no scars on the breast itself after the procedure.
Tummy tucks and liposuction have also been among his favourite procedures, recreating a flat stomach using the Hunstad technique, which Jóhannes learned from his colleague and friend, Joseph P. Hunstad, in North Carolina, USA.
Jóhannes was among the first to use fillers and Botox in Denmark when they entered the market. Since 2012, he has taught other doctors in the Nordic countries in treatments using fillers (Restylane) and Botox for Galderma.
Jóhannes also performs all other types of plastic surgery, such as eyelid surgery, breast reduction, breast lift, liposuction, and fat grafting to the breasts or buttocks. Additionally, Jóhannes treats scars and other skin blemishes.
Jóhannes places great emphasis on maintaining his knowledge in plastic surgery and keeps up with new developments. He is very active in attending international conferences on plastic surgery.
