Hjálmar Þorsteinsson

Hjálmar practises general orthopaedic surgery with a focus on hip and knee joint replacement surgeries. Since Klíníkin received a licence to operate an inpatient ward, hip and knee replacements have been performed. In light of the long waiting list found in Iceland for these surgeries, there is an obvious need for further treatment options to meet the reasonable demand of patients to return to their former quality of life as soon as possible.

Hjálmar studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Iceland, graduating in 2001, and received his general medical licence in Iceland in 2002 after his residency year at Akureyri Hospital and the Healthcare Institution of North Iceland. Hjálmar worked as a resident in the anaesthesia and intensive care department and the orthopaedic surgery department of Akureyri Hospital until 2004.

During his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery, Hjálmar worked in the orthopaedic surgery department of the hospital in Halmstad, Sweden, in addition to a temporary appointment in the paediatric orthopaedic surgery department of the Malmö University Hospital. Hjálmar obtained his specialist qualification in orthopaedic surgery in Sweden in 2007 and in Iceland in 2008.

Hjálmar worked as a specialist in orthopaedic surgery at the hospital in Halmstad from the beginning of 2008, until he was appointed chief physician of orthopaedic surgery with responsibilities in joint replacement surgeries at the beginning of 2009. From 2010 until mid-2012, Hjálmar served as director of the orthopaedic surgery department at the hospital in Halmstad.

Hjálmar worked as the CEO of Capio Movement, a private hospital in the fields of orthopaedic surgery, rheumatology, and medical imaging in Halmstad, from August 2012 to September 2016. Hjálmar started working at Klíníkin in September 2016 and was its managing director from that time until September 2020.
